Lower Left Back Pain: Causes and Cures

One of the most common types of back pain seen in emergency rooms, chiropractic clinics, and doctor’s offices across the country is pain in lower left side of back. This type of pain is also unfortunately one of the most commonly misdiagnosed, in part because there are so many potential causes. Knowing the most common causes of pain in lower left side of back can help you determine what is going on and save you from the pain and expense of years of unproductive doctor’s visits, addictive drugs, and therapeutic treatments that offer you no relief.

Gastrointestinal Distress

Several things can cause gastrointestinal distress. Some people are sensitive to certain foods and can suffer intense pain from the accompanying inflammation. Other times, gastrointestinal distress and pain in lower left side of back can both be caused by a muscle imbalance, which can be cured by relatively easy and inexpensive muscle balance therapy.

Kidney Stones

Kidney stones can cause intense lower back pain on either side of your back, or even on both sides. They also cause blood in the urine and, sometimes, difficulty urinating. Fortunately, they are easy to diagnose through either imaging such as x-rays and MRI’s or even a simple urine test. If you have visited a doctor or a hospital for pain in lower left side of back, you have probably been evaluated for this disorder. If you have these symptoms and kidney stones have not been ruled out as a cause of your pain in lower left side of back, you should ask your medical care provider to evaluate you immediately.

Spinal Problems

Many Americans who have pain in lower left side of back suffer from spinal problems, from problems as minor as a misalignment to major issues like herniated discs. These can be addressed through years of chiropractic therapy, expensive drugs, and potentially dangerous surgeries. Unfortunately, while these may offer temporary relief for the symptoms of back pain, none of them treatments address the actual root cause. For most people with spinal problems, the root cause of pain in lower left side of back is a muscle imbalance.

Muscle Imbalances

Your muscles don’t just help you move; they provide the scaffolding that keeps your skeleton in place. If your muscles are out of balance, this can cause gastrointestinal distress, spinal problems, and intense pain. If you are suffering from pain in lower left side of back, the chances are good that a muscle imbalance is the culprit. Unfortunately, surgeries, chiropractic adjustments, and medications do nothing to address a muscle imbalance. They merely reduce the pain, often for a very short amount of time. This is why so many Americans suffer from pain in lower left side of back.
